Boosting Your Side Hustle

It’s an amazing feeling knowing that in a 2 hour seminar, I helped 10 small businesses grow.  Beyond the “warm fuzzies” associated with helping others, we also had tons of fun!

On Monday, December 18th, 2017, I taught 10 business owners (or “soon-to-be” business owners) how to jump start 2018 by using the Lean Canvas to create or improve their business plans.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  1. All (successful) businesses solve a problem.  Use this to communicate to your target customers (ex: don’t say, “I can rent you a mailbox.”  Instead, say “I can solve your porch pirate concerns by keeping your packages safe.”
  2. One of the most common marketing and strategy oversights I have witnessed is underutilizing (or not recognizing) your “channels.”  A channel is how you reach your customers. Don’t forget about some of the most obvious channels where it will require $0 to implement marketing – such as spreading the word at organizations you are already involved with!
  3. The Udon.  Really, the udon noodles at Café Mak were fantastic.  If you’ve never been there, it’s now on my short list of “best restaurant/café ambiance.”  Go there.
